Account answers

How do I change my location?

Well, that's a great question. We have a few answers for you depending on which location you're asking about.

  1. The location on my profile:

The location on your profile is the same location one we use when we send you relevant Weekly Bulletin emails. It's also the location we use to help generate the My Eventful section of the site.

To change this location, you can go to My Eventful and look in the second section titled "Favorite performers' events near me". Look for the link titled "Change my location" in that area.

  2. The location I'm currently searching:

This is what we call your "current location" because it's set to whatever you recently searched. It's not permanent by any means, and you can change it in quite a few places. The easiest way to change it is to go to the home page and click on the link titled "Change location" near where the categories list of events is.

How do I rename my username?

Currently, the best solution to this problem is to do the following yourself:

  1. Log in to Eventful.com and click on your username (upper right corner). This brings you to your profile page.
  2. Click on every event, performer, venue, group and calendar which you have created, joined, favorited, friended, or commented on.
  3. Delete comments, withdraw demands, events, performers, calendars, leave groups, and unfriend users.
  4. Go to your user's preferences and change your email address to something unrecognizable
  5. Delete any saved locations inside your preferences as well.
  6. Remove any description or interests from your public profile section in the user's preferences.

This lengthy process effectively removes any activity you've done throughout our system. There is still a small chance you may show up in certain situations, and your profile will still be accessable and visible.

If you would like, you can then re-join under a different username. (back to top)

How do I cancel/delete my account?

Unfortunately, we don't have the functionality in place to delete or cancel accounts. You can unsubscribe from any emails you're receiving, however.

  1. Log in to Eventful.com and click on your username (upper right corner). This brings you to your profile page.

How do I edit my email preferences?

You have a few options here. If you signed in, simply go to your Email Preferences page and update your preferences.

If you're not a registered user (for instance, if you just joined a demand, but didn't join for a username), you need to click on the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of an email you receive from us. (back to top)

Demand answers

What is a "demand widget"?
A "demand widget" is a list of rotating places your fans or constituents are asking you play, perform, speak, sign, etc. The "widget" is a bit of code you can put on your website or MySpace page which will help people demand you in their location. (back to top)
What is "critical mass" for a demand?

The "critical mass" number is determined solely by the peformer.

Now, if the performer has claimed their performer page (thus, knows about Eventful and the demands), then they determine whatever "critical mass" means on a case by case (per demand) basis. In some cases, they might not determine it at all. In those cases, feel free to comment either on the demand or on the performer page and ask them what it would be.

If the performer doesn't know about us yet, though, we'll contact them for you when you get what looks to us like there's enough of a critical mass to get the performer to come and play. Of course, that's very subjective on our part, but we'll at least contact the performer and let them know that they have a ton of people who want to see them play in that area. Then, it's their call. (back to top)

I found duplicate demands. What should I do?
Click the "Report problem" link on the page (usually located near the bottom right) and let us know it's a duplicate. We'll fix it right up. (back to top)
Hey, my vote (attempt at joining a demand) didn't work! What should I do?

Are you sure? If you're a registered user, the first thing you should do is look at the bottom of the demand's detail page. If your username is listed in the "Eventful users demanding this", then you've been counted.

Now we do limit the number of demands you join for one performer. We also have a fraud check which makes sure you're not trying to join the same demand a bunch of times. Sometimes, this gets in the way when a few people try to sign up from within the same network or from the same computer.

Our suggestion for to solve this issue is either (a) using a different computer if possible, or (b) waiting 24 hours and then try it again.

We have these rules in place so people are counted as accurately as possible while trying to avoid counting any person more than once. Sometimes people try to vote more than once (just like the election process), and because we're trying to help the performers judge the actual number of people who would come to their show in a particular area, we have to be pretty diligent about catching fraud as best as we can. (back to top)

How do I modify or delete a demand I created?
When you're signed in, just click the "Edit this demand" link in the right column of the demand's detail page. (back to top)

How do I post a demand widget on my MySpace page, blog and websites
Join for an Eventful username. Create your Performer profile. A Performer page may have already been created for you by a fan, but you can claim your page if it has already been setup for you. (back to top)
Why isn't my demand widget flashing all the cities where I'm being demanded?
You likely have a city-specific Demand widget posted rather than a global demand widget. Retrieve your global demand widget by going to your performer page and click the link titled "Add a widget for this performer to your MySpace page or blog" on the right hand side of the page and copy the code into your MySpace page, blog and websites. (back to top)
Why doesn't the JavaScript widget work on MySpace?
MySpace does not allow JavaScript. However, our Flash demand widgets work on MySpace and you can copy the code and paste it into your MySpace profile. (back to top)
Why does the demand widget make MySpace comments look weird?
Demand widgets are compatible with MySpace profiles, blogs, and bulletins. Demand widgets are not compatible in MySpace comments or messages. (back to top)
